Raising the Standards of Environmental Practice

The Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) Project is designed to build capacity of professionals in the management and practice of Procurement, Environmental and Social (PES) Standards within the country.

To implement comprehensive training programs and initiatives aimed at building sustainable capacity for monitoring and enforcing Environmental Standards across both public and private sectors, thereby ensuring long-term Environmental Sustainability and compliance.
To increase the number of qualified Environmental professionals and enhance their presence in the workforce to effectively address Environmental challenges and bridge the gap in the Environmental sector.

Project Deliverables

The Environment node is specifically tasked with the following

Development of Environmental Standards Certification Scheme

Stakeholders nationwide are invited to submit feedback on the ES Certification Scheme Report to improve the scheme’s effectiveness

Development of Strategic Capacity Building Plan for the Environmental Sector

The terms of reference prepared for the strategic capacity building strategies and plan for the ES Certification Scheme are under review

Establishment of a Working Group on Environmental Standards (WgES)

To facilitate the above, A working group has been set up to improve collaboration on environmental standards for a project

Development of an online Certification Portal

The NUC is assisting the Implementing Agencies to ensure the implementation of this activity through a joint procurement process between the FMEnv and FMWA

The SPESSE project aims to bring major advancements to Nigeria by setting strong procurement, environmental and social standards in both public and private sectors.
